It’s strange to think about how we inject our DNA into the technologies we create; that is, we give them life. Life is defined by its purpose of generating more life, meaning that it requires self-maintenance and self-generation. It needs to find a way to keep itself going, and that’s about it. Look at your television. Its built-in purpose is to keep you watching television, to keep it “on” (alive). The internet’s purpose? To keep you on the internet. To keep you consuming, which is effectively the same as you being consumed by the technology. And so here we are, forming this strange, narcissistic symbiosis by fusing with our own creations, a pagan adaptation to the ways we once constructed our gods to mingle with us.
