So, I’ve fallen a little behind now. We’re at week 21 now, and I’ve only managed to read The Big Sleep and Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth since my last post about this in week week 18. Then I was at 14 finished books. With these other two, I’m at 16: five books back. If we go ahead and count Infinite Jest as ten books, well, then I’m five books ahead.
I’m still reading, though. Here’s my current active* list:
- Farewell, My Lovely
- Reading Like a Writer
- Elements of Style
- White Boy Shuffle
- The Illuminatus! Trilogy
I gave up on How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents. When we covered it in class, everybody decided they didn’t like the book. So I’m not going to bother.
I’m heading to China for a couple weeks next month, and I taking The Illuminatus! Trilogy with me. Canelli, you down to read your copy, too?
In addition to that, I’m also bringing a copy of Don Delillo’s White Noise. This was after discussing this review of his latest book, Zero K, in class. It was recommended by the instructor and another classmate that I read White Noise because of my taste in DFW/Pynchon-esque fiction. So that’s what I’m going to do.
So, hopefully, I’ll be done with book 19 by the end of week 26, either seven books back or three books ahead depending on how Infinite Jest gets counted.
* “Active” meaning it’s sitting on my bed stand, waiting for me to pick it up.
