52 Books: Maus I & II

Everybody says they read Art Spiegelman’s Maus I & II back in high school.  Everybody said that to me when they saw me carrying my copy around.  Well, that’s nice, yo, but I didn’t.  But I’ve read it now.

I don’t really know what to say about this.  It was an incredibly powerful read.  I knew going in it was about the Holocaust, but maybe I underestimated its impact because it was in the form of a graphic novel.  And maybe also because I didn’t really know that much about what all specifically went on during the Holocaust: the logistics of how it started, was ramped up and perfected, and how it ultimately came undone.

Amanda told me to count Maus I as a separate book from Maus II.  So I did.
