52 Books: The Hike

Book 41 is Drew Magary’s The Hike.  This was a birthday present from Amanda.  Magary, if you’re reading this: she bought it at Barnes & Noble and paid full price for it; not off Amazon.com for a 30% discount.

Magary is one of our favorite writers on deadspin.  Amanda had an awkward meeting with him once in Towson, and I’ve emailed him a couple of fantastical emails about how I think the NFL should adopt a promotion/relegation mechanism.  Hell, I even tried to get some friends to ambush him at the New York Comic Con last year (or the year before…can’t remember) with my theories on how NFL relegation would work.  (Wait, Canelli, were you one of the people I asked to talk to him?)

Anyway, I tried to think of all the things I could write about this book, but all I could up with was this:

Ugh.

But then I read the top-rated comment on the book’s amazon page and I realized I could add

Yeah, that about sums it up.

Also:

This would probably translate pretty easily into a movie.  I hope it does so I can tell everyone how terrible the book is.

Yeah, that’s about it.

Still working on Moonglow.  Halfway through that one.  I’m also going to pick up Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned by Wells Tower.  This is one of the books from last semester’s writing class.
