Canelli has been stuck on 43 books for how long now? Ever since he picked up Moby Dick? Ever since he stopped reading it around chapter 28? What the hell, bro?
Well, I broke through to book 44 last night when I finished James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time. I had just ordered it late last week, and when Charlottesville happened over the weekend, I decided to push through Moonglow and get on The Fire Next Time right away. Only about 100 pages, it was a quick read that is as powerful and relevant today as it was 54 years ago.
