November is here, which means it’s National Novel Writing Month. This is a real thing, just like National Taco Day and National Nachos Day (which are real holidays celebrated at my house). So, got an idea for a book you want to write? November is the month to kickstart it.
Of course, the reality is that writing a novel in one month, even a very rough first draft, is insane. The standard average length of a novel is about 100,000 words. To write that in one month means you’ve got to churn out about 3,400 words a day. A DAY! For fuck’s sake, even when I was working at my highest output this past spring, I was averaging a tenth of that each day.
On the flip side, if you happen to already have a novel draft laying around, maybe November is your month?
