Every day on my work desktop calendar I write my current chapter and total word counts and what it should be by the end of the day. 250 words a day, every day, is the goal. In reality, some days I write 100 words, other days I write 1000. But the goal is to average no less than 250 a day.
You can’t tell from this picture, but I’m actually going to hit 100,000 either today or tomorrow. Chapter 9 got workshopped in class last night, and it went really well. The changes I need to make are cosmetic, and will probably only add 100 words total to the manuscript. But Chapter 15 is waiting, and I’ve got that sucker all figured out. I might be able to finish that chapter by the end of the week. If not, definitely the end of the month. And that leaves the final chapter, Chapter 16, for all of December.
Yeah, my work rate has been accelerating because I’m finally getting to the parts of the novel that I don’t have to dwell too hard on to figure out what happens. I’ve had these chapters planned in my head since I started writing Chapter 1. The work of Birdland was connecting the beginning to the end–and I’m almost there now.
I hope they can get Rage Against The Machine to reunite to do the movie’s soundtrack.
